Jerry W. France, 68, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 with his loving family by his side at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. He was born in Dayton, OH, on April 23, 1948, the son of the late Andy and Sarah Smith France. He was a 1967 graduate of Wilmington (OH) High School.
Jerry served in the US Air Force for twenty years before retiring at Griffiss Air Force Base in 1988. He went on to take a civil service job at West Point for several years before retiring again.
An avid Ohio State University and Denver Broncos fan, Jerry loved to talk sports. He was always trying to put a smile on everyone's face.
He is survived by three daughters, Christy (Randy) Jones of Tampa, FL, Rebecca (Jason Dee) France of Westmoreland, Kelly Williams of Oriskany; a son, Bryan (Karen McCorduck) France of Rome; a sister, Linda (Ken) Larrick of Blanchester, OH; four cherished grandchildren, JT and Marissa Dee, Donovan Williams, and Amelia France; a niece, Kendra, and a nephew, Kevin. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Vladimir Williams.
Jerry's family would like to thank the Drs., nurses, and staff on the 6th Floor and ICU at the Syracuse VA Medical Center for their wonderful care and compassion.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Tuesday at St. Peter's Cemetery at 11:30AM. Family and friends may call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Monday from 4-7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to the Rome Humane Society.
