Sandra A. Knopka

            Sandra A. Keeney Knopka, 73, of Rome, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, May 14, 2017.  She was born in Rome on February 24, 1944, the daughter of the late Oren and Ruth Henderson Keeney.  She was a graduate of Camden High School.  On August 24, 1968, she united in marriage to Richard D. Knopka.  He passed away November 27, 2004. 

            Sandra was a licensed beautician and later worked for the CNY DSO for several years before retiring in 2010. 

            She attended the Scripture Salvation Baptist Tabernacle in Rome where her son Andrew is the Senior Pastor.

            Sandra was an active volunteer who devoted many hours to various groups, including R-Cats, the Capital Theater, the Rome Community Theater, as well as the CNY DSO, where she developed a very special relationship with Joey Battist and Peter Mihalakos. 

            She enjoyed traveling, especially cruising, with her friends and loved her recent trips to Ireland and Hawaii.  Her true passion though was spending time with her grandchildren, attending their various events, and being their biggest supporter. 

            Sandra is survived by her four children, Barbara (Paul) McIntyre of Sacramento, CA, Donna (Dale) Aikens of Camden, Theresa (William) Rosenberry of Etters, PA, and Andrew (Elizabeth) Knopka of Rome; her sister, Andrea Brown of Burton, MI; her brother, Jerry (Cindy)Keeney of Taberg; twelve grandchildren, Dominic, Hunter, Chip, Eric, Alexander, Jennifer, Rebecca, Richard, Jacob, Paul, Grace, and Hannah; two special grandchildren, Andy and Emily; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.                      

            Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 6:00PM at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.  Interment will take place in McConnellsville Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday prior to the service from 11:00AM -1:00PM and from 4-6:00PM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sandra’s memory may be made to the Kelberman Center for Autism, 3899 Oneida St., Suite 3, New Hartford, NY  13413  or The American Cancer Society, Rome Relay for Life, 110 Lomond Ct, Utica NY 13502.
