David W. Mokry, 75, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Elizabeth's Healthcare in Utica. He was born on January 5, 1942, in Rome, the son of the late Walter and Josephine Soboloski Mokry. He was a 1960 graduate of Holland Patent High School and went on to earn an Associate's Degree from Mohawk Valley Community College and a Bachelor's Degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. On November 6, 1976, he married Judith West. She passed away on September 24, 2016.
Dave worked at Griffiss Air Force Base for the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Eastern Air Defense Sector for over 35 years.
He was a member of the New London Methodist Church and the Westmoreland Kiwanis Club. He was also a lifetime member of the IEEE and former President of the Westmoreland Central School Board.
Dave enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours camping and kayaking. He was also an excellent rifleman.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Todd Thomas of Westmoreland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Lynette Mokry of Pompey and Dennis and Debbie Mokry of Westmoreland; a brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Jane Mokry of Daytona Beach, FL; a stepson, Edward Lawrence of Oppenheim; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Mary Lou Hall of Rome; his canine companion, Snickers; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ann Mokry.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 14th at 11:00AM at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Interment will take place in Westmoreland Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service from 9-11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's memory may be made to the Rome Humane Society.
