Anthony F. Mandronico, 89, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. He was born in Rome on February 28, 1928 the son of the late Dominic and Rosaria Campoli Mandronico. On June 28, 1952 he married Mary Washeleski. She passed away on August 26, 1988.
Tony served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He owned and operated Tony's Sidetrack Diner in South Rome for several years.
He was a parishioner at St. Paul's Church.
Tony is survived by: four daughters, Debbie Witt of Rome, Rhonda Mandronico of Rome, Elizabeth Payson of Lee Center and Tricia Lynn Mandronico of San Diego; a sister, Theresa Golden of Florida; four grandchildren, Jennie (Martin) Alesia, Michael Witt, Laura Witt and Breanne Payson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by: a son, Michael; two sisters, Mary Taverna and Tina Cavano; and two brothers, Henry and Barney.
Tony's family would like to thank Dr. Kashtanova and Dr. Emile Wassell, along with the staffs at Faxton-St. Luke's and Rome Memorial Hospital, for their wonderful care and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11:00AM at St. Paul's Church. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Thursday from 4-6:00PM.
