Obituary of James Harris
James T. Harris, Sr., 78, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017. He was born in Rome on November 24, 1939, the son of the late Thomas and Sybil Gould Harris. On January 26, 1963, he married Christine Henderson.
Jim served in the US Navy for four years before joining the US Army Reserves 331st Medical Detachment for over 20 years. During his time in the Reserves he achieved the rank of Sergeant 1st Class E7. He was called to Active Duty during Operation Desert Storm and served as an LPN at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Baltimore.
He worked at Spargo Wire for many years until it closed and later retired from Revere Copper and Brass Co. Jim also was an EMT 3 at AMCARE Ambulance Service for several years.
He was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish and he was President of the Camp 4 Hunting Club.
Surviving besides his wife of 54 years, Christine, are: three daughters, Melinda (Robert) Falcone of Rome, Michele (Bob) Harris of Utica, and Jennifer Harris of Rome; one son, James T. (Linda) Harris, Jr. of Rome; a brother, George "Bud" (Gail) Harris of Rome; eight grandchildren, Richard, Lila, Thomas, Sadie, Dustin, Ryan, Aidan, and Sophie; and a great-grandson, Jayce; brother-in-law, Lester (Grace) Henderson; sister-in-law, Kathy LaGreco; two former son-in-laws, Gregory Curry and Richard Magliocca, Sr.; and several nieces and nephews.
