David P. Morgan, 81, of E. Garden St., Rome, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at St. Elizabeth's Healthcare in Utica.
He was born on September 23, 1936, in Scranton, PA, the son of David G. and Helen A. Moran Morgan. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School.
David proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1956-1957.
On November 30, 1957, David was united in marriage to Sally McDonald.
David was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for thirty years. He then went on to work for Birnie Bus for twenty-two years.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He was a football referee for many years, played softball, and coached the Boy's Post and Fran Allison Youth Basketball teams. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events and musicals.
Surviving besides his loving wife of sixty years, Sally; are two children, Susan Morgan Calicchia, of Rome, and Timothy (Michelle) Morgan, of Little Falls; six grandchildren, Sarah and Patrick Anderson, Timothy Jr. and Daniel Morgan, and Elizabeth and Elana Calicchia; four sisters, Helen (James) Sutton, Janet Piccola, Donna (Eugene) Benn, Jr., and Patsy Morgan, all of Rome; two brothers, William (Elaine) Morgan, of Stuart, FL, and Daniel Morgan (Barb Mangino), of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by a daughter, Wendy Anderson; a brother, Thomas Moe Morgan; and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Piccola, Jr., and Norm McDonald.
David's family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of the St. Elizabeth's Healthcare ICU for their kindness and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at 7:00 PM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, where the Rev. Robert Catherwood will officiate. Private interment will take place in Rome Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the Rome Humane Society.
