Obituary of Leo Luczynski
Leo A. Luczynski, 96, of Rome, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. He was born in Rome on March 21, 1921, the son of the late Jozef and Sophie Luczynski. He was 1939 graduate of Rome Free Academy. On June 8, 1946 he was united in marriage to Joyce Fleming, a blessed union of 71 years.
Leo served his country in the US Navy during World War II and saw action in both the European and Pacific Theaters.
After being honorably discharged from the service, Leo returned to Rome and had a long career in Civil Service at Griffiss Air Force Base.
He was a parishioner of St. Peter's Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #391 and the Rome Polish Home.
Leo enjoyed fishing, camping and any family activity.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Joyce, are: five daughters, Patty Nellenbach of Pinehurst, NC, Mary Eames and her husband Bill, of Clay, Debra Bartell and her husband Ross, of Rome, Ann Sbarglia and her husband Gabe, of Rome and Phyllis Bailey of Rome; a son, Thomas Luczynski and his wife Brenda, of Atlanta; twenty-one adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
Leo’s family would like to thank the caregivers at Independence Care for the wonderful kindness and compassion shown to him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 15th at 10:00AM at St. Peter's Church with the Rev. Philip Hearn officiating. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Leo's memory may be made to Rome Catholic School.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
