Obituary of William J. Richards

William J. "Bill" Richards, 72, most recently of Oneida, but lived many years in the North Bay area, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Rome Memorial Hospital after living the past six years with Lewy Body dementia.

He was born on September 17, 1945, in Watertown, the son of William J. and Lea Simpson Richards, Jr. He was a graduate of Oswego High School and went on to receive his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from SUNY Oswego.

In 1977, he bought the Verona Beach Hotel which he loved so much. He had the best country music fans and friends ever. He went onto sell the hotel in 1983.

On November 16, 1985, Bill was united in marriage to Jacqueline A. Kinney Zupan in Blossvale.

Bill was a math teacher for thirty-nine years. He started at North Bay Elementary where he taught for two years and went on to teach for the NYS Division of Youth at the Annsville Youth Camp.

He was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church and the Sons of the American Legion Post 1153 Sylvan Beach. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the D.P. Hunting Club.

Surviving besides his loving wife of thirty-two years, Jackie; are a daughter, Shanna Richards (Walt), of New York Mills; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Carroll, of Verona Beach; three step-children, Theresa, Louie Jr., and Nick (Tabitha) Zupan; two brothers, Mike (Marty) Barney, of Scriba, Nate (Missy) Richards, of York, PA; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his best dog ever, Mindy; and many great friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents; and two sons, Lance Carroll and John Carroll.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at 1:00 PM at the North Bay Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 St. Rt. 13, Camden. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the North Bay VFD, the Vienna Methodist Church, or the Sons of the American Legion Post 1153 Sylvan Beach.
