Obituary of Bruce MacFarland
Bruce E. MacFarland, 70, of Blossvale, went on ahead as a victim of cancer on Saturday, September 8, 2018 while a patient at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. He completed his earthly journey with class, dignity and humor.
He was born on May 1. 1948, in Rome, a son of the late Lynn and Sonia MacFarland and was a 1966 graduate of Camden Central High School. Bruce attended Traphagen School of Design in NYC and Mohawk Valley Community College.
Prior to retiring in 2011, he was employed for 19 years as a dealer at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY. He was also employed by the Oneida County Office of the Aging and Department of Social Services. Bruce also worked at the Neighborhood Health Center in Syracuse for a number of years.
Bruce's commitment to community included membership of the Annsville Cemetery Association, Inspector for the Oneida County Board of Elections Annsville Districts 1-2-3 and a volunteer at the Camden Senior Nutrition Wednesday Luncheons.
He enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal, books about the Royal Family of England, interior design and US and world history. He had a passion for cooking and took pleasure sharing his dishes with friends and family. Bruce was known by many as a generous and kind man. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: four sisters and three brothers-in-law, his twin Nancy and Michael McNutt of Rome, Janet and Richard Waterman of Florence, Jill Riegler of Rome and Crystal and Frank Walters of McConnellsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Linda MacFarland of Melbourne, FL, and James and Ellen MacFarland of Watertown; many loved nieces, nephews and friends. Bruce was predeceased by a sister, Holly MacFarland on July 25, 2018 and a brother-in-law, William Riegler.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22nd at 12:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden. Family and friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Private burial will be held in Maple Hill Cemetery in Taberg at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bruce's memory may be made to the Rome Humane Society, 6247 Lamphear Rd., Rome NY 13440.
