Obituary of Willard L. Campbell

Willard L. Campbell, III, 51, of Rome, passed away at home on Monday, December 31, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with ALS. Born in Rome on August 7, 1967, he was the son of Willard and Philomena (Barber) Campbell, Jr. He graduated in 1985 from Rome Free Academy and went to Arizona State University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi before earning a Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University.

Willard lived in Tampa, FL, for many years and worked at GSP Marketing who continued to support him throughout his battle with ALS.

He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, scuba diving and he was an excellent cook. He also enjoyed being with his family and friends and loved his dog Kayliegh.

Willard was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the Toccolana Club. He was a member of several bocce leagues, played in several tournaments and was a past World Series champion. He was also a devout Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Willard is survived by: his mother, Philomena of Rome; a son, Matthew Manderson of Colorado; a sister and brother-in-law, Bernadette and George Wishart of Rome; two grandchildren, Lucas and Gracelyn; three nieces, Dixie (Jake) Enos, Delicia Wishart (Frank Gushue) and Dominique Wishart; two nephews, George (Laura) Wishart and Joshua Wishart (Richelle Reynolds); and several great-nieces and great-nephews and many amazing friends. He was predeceased by his father, Willard Jr. and his brother, Raymond.

Willard's family would like to thank of all his friends and family, including the "Florida Boys", who took great care of him during his time of need. A special thank you to Sierra, his caregiver, who showed him compassion and took such great care of him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at TBA at St. John the Baptist Church. Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to calling hours at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Sunday from 2-5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Willard's memory may be made to the ALS Association of Upstate NY, 135 Old Cove Rd., Suite 213, Liverpool, NY 13090.
