Wednesday, May 1, 2019To the families and loved ones of Mr. Ornum, who we know will be dearly missed. Almighty God promised at Revelation 21:4 that he will wipe away all our tears. And death, pain, and sorrow will be no more. So, you can take great comfort from drawing close to God in prayer. And he will help sustain and support your families to endure. During these difficult times and in the months to follow. My deepest condolences to all your loved ones.

Tuesday, March 26, 2019Mrs. V and family - my sincere condolences to all of you. Van was such a big influence on me while I was I high school in Ilion. I also enjoyed babysitting for your daughter - I think it was Joy - there too. He was certainly someone I looked up to! And you and Van were kind enough to travel to VA to officiate at my wedding 52 years ago. That meant a great deal to me! I am so sorry for your loss but also glad you were able to have so many happy years together! Sincerely, Lee (Purple) Bent

Wednesday, March 13, 2019Jean and family, Sorry for using this medium, but I did not have your address. I wanted to add a personal note of celebration and appreciation for Van's life and work. He was not only a child and man of God, but also a man of family, sport, outdoors, humor, and compassion. Our family will always be particularly grateful for the warmth and outreach he and you showed Mom and all of us when Dad died, and most especially for the collegiality, friendship, leadership and commitment he and you subsequently offered to Mom and the whole congregation at Rome First UMC. It was a personal honor and pleasure to have shared some time with you and Van during those days. May God continue to be with you and bless you in the days ahead. Paul Holmes

Sunday, March 10, 2019Rev Van was an integral part of my and my children’s lives. It started in New Hartford. I was blessed to have him perform my wedding ceremony. After that, when we had children, Rev Van baptized them. When we moved to Rome, we were lucky enough to find out he was our pastor! He always seemed to know when I needed his counseling as he would show up at the door for a visit. I was a widow at a young age and raising my girls alone was hard, but he was always there for support without even knowing how much I needed it. He was a blessed man and is now resting in the arms of Jesus. So thankful that he was part of my life! God blessed us with him!

Sunday, March 10, 2019Although I joined the Van Orum family later in life, I was welcomed as though I had always been there. Dad was a loving, reserved man who was always there to discuss and advise with the wisdom of years. The Van Orum’s truly set me on my journey of life when after high school, mother had a tea with the women of the church and they donated enough money to put me through Beauty School. Although I didn’t cut Dad’s hair,(he didn’t have much) I would do Mother’s whenever she wanted or needed it. Dad would just pass by and smile. Dad was always busy, the church, the outreach, the organizations or basketball but always had time for me. Dad was the kindest, gentlest soul, it was an honor for him to call me his daughter. I will miss him and our talks. Carlton Van Orum was the only true father to me.

Sunday, March 10, 2019Jean and Family: My condolences on 'Van's' passing. I remember him well as a Board member and former President of Rome Family Services. He was very much down to earth and easy to talk with. I can still hear him speak with his low voice and a reassuring one, too. He also appreciated a good joke and complimented it with a quiet but hearty laugh. Van's earth journey is over and now onto the Home for which he was created. He truly was the good and faithful servant. Sincerely, Jim Dooher DeWitt, NY

So glad to have been able to call you family for so long.

Saturday, March 9, 2019Uncle Carlton was the most loving Uncle a family could ever have. Always interested in what was going on in your life, and always had a little joke, a kind word of encouragement, and a beautiful smile. I loved how Aunt Jean always called or refereed to him as "Honey". I am a proud family member as well as having the utmost respect for this kind loving soul.
