Obituary of Don E. Reising

Don E. Reising, 91, formerly of Herder Rd., Blossvale, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the Presbyterian Home of Central New York where he had been a resident since December 14, 2018.

He was born on September 30, 1927, in Annsville, the son of Leon J. and Edith H. Kimball Reising.  He attended the Utica Free Academy and went on to receive his GED.  He later graduated from the Allied School of Technology in Chicago, IL.

In 1945, Don proudly enlisted and served his country as a member of the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1947.  Don took great pride in being a World War II Veteran.

On April 21, 1947, Don was united in marriage to Alice “Pearl” Lacell in Elkton, MD.  A blessed union of sixty-six years until Pearl’s passing on August 14, 2013.

Don was a Tug Boat Captain for the NYS Division of Canals for thirty-one years, retiring in 1989.

Don was a life member and Past Commander of the Arthur S. Moran American Legion Post #66, past Treasurer of the Oneida County Committee American Legion for ten years, life member of the Stanwix Men’s Club, member of the Durhamville Vet’s Club, member of the 40 & 8 Voiture Club #92, life member of the Vienna Fire Dept., and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Surviving are six daughters, Phyllis (Carlton) Kitchen, of Vernon, Bonita (Ken) Mackey, of Perry, OH, Kathy (Larry) Parmeter, of Murphy, NC, Rose Pounds, of Blossvale, Carol (Joseph) Philbin, of Vernon, and Lisa (Jon) Schoff, of Newton Falls, NY; a son, David Reising, of Concord, OH; two sisters-in-law, Eunice Eldridge, of Camden, and Marge Lacell, of Vernon; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Don was predeceased by a son, Don E. Reising, Jr.; a grandson, Ryan Alamond; two sisters, Doris Wishart, and Esther Rogers; two brothers, Leon J. Reising, and Richard Wishart; a son-in-law, Dave Pounds; and a grandson-in-law, Joseph Andrewski.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at 2:00 PM at the Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., where his daughter, Pastor Phyllis Kitchen will officiate.  Interment with Military Honors will be held in McConnellsville Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited and may call prior to the service on Wednesday from 12:00 PM (noon) to 2:00 PM at the funeral home, 9464 St. Rt. 13, Camden.  Memorial contributions may be made in Don’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.  You may light a candle, send a message of sympathy and read the obituary at www.nunnandharper.com.
