Obituary of Ann G. Edwards

Ann Groth Edwards (Nielsen), a 50-year resident of Creekview Dr., McConnellsville, New York, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 28, 2019 in the comfort of her home.

She was born on August 11, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Peter H. Nielsen of Schafflund Germany and Nora Groth of Olso Norway. Ann was raised in Queens and as a teen moved to a dairy farm near Cherry Valley, New York.

She was a first generation American and graduated Springfield High School. Ann then attended and graduated from Hartwick College where she received her nursing degree and practiced as a RN at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. Here she met John H. “Jack” Edwards Jr., a recently returned veteran of the Coast Guard, in the Tap Room of the Tunnicliff Inn, Cooperstown, NY.

Jack and Ann were united in marriage at Hartwick Seminary on March 29, 1958. They were together for 57 years until Jack’s passing in September 20, 2015.  They are now reunited.

Throughout her life she worked to help others, raising money for the American Cancer Society, working as an Avon lady, and serving as a Cub Scout den leader and a Girl Scout leader, and was on the PTA at McConnellsville Elementary School for a number of years. She enjoyed golfing, working on puzzles, and loved her soap operas. She wintered on Pine Island, Florida for many years with Jack. While in Florida, she joined The Red Hat Society with the local ladies and participated in many of their activities.

Surviving her are two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Edwards, of McConnellsville, and Kristina and Arthur Crossman, of Camden; a son and daughter-in-law, Sherrill and Shaunene Edwards, of Camas, Washington; nine grandchildren, Elisabeth (Jesse) Keith, Stephany (Stephanie) Edwards, Kimberly (Sean) Kelley, Daniel (Rachel) Chandia, Carlos (Lauren) Chandia, Andrew Crossman, Hannah Crossman, Rachel Edwards, and Robert Edwards; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving her are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley (Shirley) Nielsen and Arthur (Donna) Nielsen; Two nieces and a nephew-in-law, Erica Nielsen and Jill (Bud) Beckens; Two nephews and nieces-in-law, Erik (Sarah) Nielsen, Mark (Alex); and 2 grand-nieces and 1 grand-nephew.

Ann was predeceased by her husband, Jack, an infant grandson, Gregory Crossman, and her parents.

In keeping with Ann’s wishes, no services will be held.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13. Camden.
