Obituary of Jane L. Matteson
Jane L. Matteson, 79, of Camden, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 30, 2019. Born in Camden on December 13, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Dora (McMahon) Matteson. She was a graduate of Camden High School. Jane held various jobs throughout her working career which included places like Griffiss Air Force Base, NY Telephone, UCP of Fort Worth, TX, and the Senior Nutrition Program at the Presbyterian Church of Camden. She is survived by seven daughters, Denise, twins Donna and Deborah, Kelly, Cathy, Tracy and Tammy; sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by the father of her children, Melville Collier; two sisters, Ruth Peletier and Mary Ann Musch; three brothers, William, Ralph and Thomas Matteson; and a son-in-law, Donald Hanna. Raising seven girls by herself, she taught them all to be strong, fierce, independent women by her example. She used her artistic, musical and creative talents to teach them do so much with so little; surprises like snow animals that she made in the winter, clothes she made of them, good meals she made from whatever she could find. She fought to keep her family together when the threat of losing her children was upon her, when it would have been easier for her to let them go. She worked so hard to support her children, and didn’t complain about things she didn’t have. Her love for all of them, no matter what STUPID things they might have done (and still do) never fails them. She has rescued them from themselves time and time again, as children and as grown women; because she loved them. There are not words beautiful enough to describe the thank you she deserves for the life she has given them, the love they have for her and the honor it was to call her their mother. “We love you so much mom, and we want the whole world to love you like we do. We love you. “ A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 7th at 12;00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 9464 State Rt. 13, Camden. Interment will take place in Forest Lawn Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
