Obituary of Barbara L. Campbell

Barbara L. Campbell, 80, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2020, with her loving and devoted family by her side. She was born on May 12, 1939 in Rome, a daughter of the late Phillip and Anna Trificana Guiliano. On April 4, 1959, Barbara was united in marriage to Thomas (Perk) Campbell; until his passing on March 2, 2006. She retired from the office of Dr. Richard Sullivan after over 20 years of service. Barbara is survived by her daughter (caretaker) and son in law, Ann and Scott Steagall (Rome); James and Marsha Campbell (Texas); Richard and Sandra Campbell (Rome); and Thomas and Diane Campbell Jr. (Lee Center); ten cherished grandchildren, Ryan Brodock, Lauren Campbell, Kal Campbell, Samantha Steagall, James Campbell Jr., Mirra Campbell, Anthony Campbell, Robert Campbell, Carson Campbell, and Kenidee Campbell. She also leaves behind two sisters, Rose Marie Anken (Stuart) and Johann Uvanni, both of Rome; and many special brother and sister in-laws. She was predeceased in death by her son, Robert J. Campbell, her sister Loretta McGregor, her mother and father in-law Robert and Wilma Campbell, her favorite in-law Alphonso J. Uvanni, and her beloved companion/grand puppy London. After years of struggling with dementia, and as much as she will be missed, it is comforting knowing that she is now at peace, and reunited with her loved ones that have passed before her. Her entire life was devoted to caring for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was always involved in supporting her boys, and grandkids, during their sporting events, school functions, and musical events. She enjoyed making Sunday dinners for her family, and going to casinos, and playing Bingo. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff of Rome Memorial Hospital for helping her family care for her over this last year. During this difficult time, no services can be held, we will extend an invitation to family and close friends for a life celebration at a later date. Barbara was an avid lover of animals, so in lieu in flowers, contributions can be made in memory of her, to the Rome Humane Society, 6247 Lamphear Road, Rome, NY 13440. Contributions can also be made to any dementia research organization of your choice Graveside services at St. Mary’s Cemetery will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
