Obituary of James M. Urtz

James M. Urtz passed away at his home in E. Syracuse July 13th, 2020. Born to James A and Violet M. Urtz April 20th, 1947 and grew up in West Branch NY . He graduated from West Leyden School in 1965 and from Albany College of Pharmacy in 1969. He served in the US Navy after which he pursued his career in Medical Technology working in San Diego, California, Saratoga, NY, Rome City Hospital in Rome NY, Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse, and as manager of Centrex labs in Syracuse NY. Jim attended St Matthew’s Catholic Church and served on many committees until he became unable to do so. He continued to attend daily mass on line however. His Faith was extremely important to him. Even as a child he played the role as priest and held “mass” often requiring his sister and neighborhood friend to attend. It is comforting to have no doubt that Jimmy is in Heaven now with his Lord and Savior, healthy and happy, and reuniting with his Goddaughter Stefanie, his Mom and Dad, and his beloved dog, Sammy and cats Sister and Pooper (if pets are in Heaven, which we all hope ), and many other friends and family who have gone before him. Jim lived with many disabilities which he acquired while in the Navy, and was forced to take an early medical retirement He had a spirit for living his life to the fullest in spite of his limitations, and acquired many close friendships over the years who became like family to him. Of special mention are Peggy Manwaring and Steve Miller, Ann Badyzo, Janet, John, and Justin Stooks, and Adela and Azmir Nukic, all of whom watched over Jimmy with much love and helped him to stay in his home and live as independently as possible. We will be forever grateful for your love of our brother. I know you felt loved by him as well. Jim is survived by his loving sisters Sherry Skogland of Rome and Jacquie (Charlie) Miller of Barneveld, his nieces and nephew, Jennifer (Paul) Yanik of Rome, John (Ross) Wilbert of Astoria NY, Jessica (Mike) Eldred Of Remsen NY and great nieces and nephews Colleen, Lucas, and Laurel Yanik, and Mason, and Violet Eldred. A special thanks to the VA of Syracuse for all the wonderful care they provided, to all his Doctors, and to the visiting nurses.
