Obituary of Edward Patrick Curley

On Sunday, September 13, 2020, Edward Thomas Patrick Curley III, 91, of Camden, passed away at Sunnyside Care Center in East Syracuse after a lengthy illness. Ed (Pat) was born on May 16, 1929 in Milwaukee, WI to Edward and Hazel (Hall) Curley. He grew up in Rome, New York. He attended local Rome schools, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1948 where he played football and hockey. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army from 1950 -1953. After being discharged from military service, Ed went on to have a family and live in the Syracuse area. He founded Curley Construction Company and worked for many years as a home improvement contractor. In later years. he relocated to Arizona where he continued working in the construction industry, eventually returning to the Syracuse area. Ed was well travelled and especially enjoyed life in the Southwest. He was an avid, amateur archeologist who enjoyed looking for Native American artifacts wherever he ventured. He loved family gatherings and was happiest spending time at Fish Creek where many, happy family memories were made. Ed was also an avid reader, a history buff, and someone who enjoyed storytelling, mesmerizing his children, nephews and nieces around a campfire. He was an active man, full of ideas and prospective projects. He was the instigator of sliding parties, ski jumps built in the front yard or an ice-skating rink in the backyard as well as neighborhood wide hide and seek games where he would always volunteer to be "it". Bird watching, hiking, or a pickup football games were common. He was a hard worker, but was not opposed to taking a day off if the weather was agreeable and golf was an option. Ed was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister Mary Stohl, and his brothers Timothy Curley, James Curley, Robert Curley, and Kent Curley. He is survived by his brother Harry Curley, sister in law Carolyn Curley of Syracuse, N.Y., sister in law Maria Curley of Oneida, N.Y., sister in law Barbara Curley of North Syracuse, N.Y. and six children , Edward Thomas Patrick IV Curley (Elizabeth) of New Albany, OH, Mary Claps (Vincent) of Camillus , N.Y. , Brian Curley ( Ruth) of Portland, ME., Maureen Lombardi ( Mark) of Nantucket, MA , Julie Schlecht of Oakland, N.J. and Teresa Schicker (Nick) of St. Paul, MN, fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Fish Creek Landing Cemetery.
