Obituary of Joseph R. Lombino

Joseph R. “Dickie” Lombino, 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2021, at Bethany Gardens. Born in Rome on August 18, 1935, he was a son of the late Emanuele and Mary (Favata) Lombino. On June 6, 1959, he was united in marriage to Maryann Smaldon, a blessed union of 55 years. She passed away September 15, 2014. Dickie worked for the Rome City School District for over 25 years and was a daily communicant at St. Peter’s Church. His favorite job was being the best grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a such a giving person and he loved to cook. Price Chopper and Hannaford’s will miss his daily visits and vast array of coupons. He was also a founding member of the Tappet Twirlers Car Club of Rome. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and Roger Harrington; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R. and Kelly Ann Lombino, Jr.; four cherished grandchildren, Jessica Salzarulo (Paul), Tiffany McDonell (Bobby), Paige Lombino and Joey Lombino III, whom he called Buster and with whom he shared a special bond; five precious great-grandchildren, Paulie, Gabriella, Carter, Maddalina and Marriana; his ‘grand-dog”, Bear’ and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Karen Daigle; two sisters, Frances Reno and Prudence Fontana; and a brother, Anthony “Sonny” Lombino. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 10th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 200 N. James St., Rome. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome.
