Anna Maria (Merchant) Lamandia passed away after a brief illness on September 18, 2021 in Rome Hospital. Anna was born August 23, 1932 in Rome, NY to parents Salvatore (Mercadante) Merchant and Rosalia (Scatarazzo) Merchant. She was a 1951 graduate of RFA. She married Frank V. Lamandia on October 3, 1953. Anna worked for Rome Cable and the Rome State School, eventually leaving the work force to be a stay-at-home mom. She was a longtime member of Transfiguration Church.
Anna used to love taking long walks around S. Madison and S. George Street and the Muck Road area looking for deer. She also loved car rides to admire "Mother Nature's handiwork."
Anna was preceded in death by her ex-husband Frank and all her brothers, Dom, Sam, Nazie, Pete, Joe and John and sisters Aggie, Mary and Linda. She is survived by her children, Kathy and Frank Lamandia both of Rome, special adopted daughter Kelley Bottini, special adopted son Michael Melioris, sisters-in- law Theresa Merchant of Rome and Josephine Tuff of Syracuse and many nieces and nephews. Anna has also left behind many special friends, Maria Hudy and Kathy LaGreco of Rome, and special adopted grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, Mercedes, Sebastian, Malani and Layah Colangelo of Rome and very special adopted grandson Christopher Baker of Cortland.
Anna's children would like to send out a very big thanks and gratitude for the doctors, nurses, aides and social workers at Rome Hospital for the excellent care she received in her final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 24th at 1:30 p.m. at Transfiguration Church, 111 Ridge St., Rome. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Thursday, September 23rd, from 4-6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Humane Society of Rome or to the R-CATS Program PO Box 314 Rome, NY 13442. Anna was fond of her feline friends and always made sure they had enough to eat.
