Obituary of Angel L. Colon

Angel L. Colon, Sr., 70, of Rome, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Rome Health. He was born in Salina, Puerto Rico, on December 12, 1951 and on February 28, 1970, he was united in marriage to Luz Gomez, a blessed union of over 51 years.
Angel enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 and served his country for 20 years until his honorable discharge in 1991. He went on to work in security for several more years for the Department of Defense, NYS Department of Corrections, MVCC, Rite Aid Distribution Center and finally, Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, where he was employed 16 years.
Angel took great joy in his grandchildren’s lives constantly keeping up with all their activities. Angel also enjoyed fishing in the Barge Canal at Locks 19 and 22. He shared his love of fishing with his grandchildren and looked forward to these outings. Another past time he shared with them was his love for Marvel and Star Wars movies. He was an avid gardener who shared his love of gardening with his wife. One of their prized possessions was the raised garden bed built by their children and grandchildren.
Surviving besides his loving wife, Luz, is a son, Angel Colon, Jr. (Susan); a daughter, Barbara Macri (William); five beloved grandchildren, Anthony and Andrew Colon and Gianna, William and Luciana Macri; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Anthony Colon.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service from 12-2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Angel’s memory to the MVHS Dialysis Center, 91 Perimeter Rd., Rome, NY 13440 or the American Heart Association.
