
Obituary of Marlene V Wightman
Marlene V. (Bachmann) Wightman, age 85 of Seneca, South Carolina was called to heaven to be with the Lord on August 5, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born at Murphy Memorial Hospital, Rome, New York on November 16, 1936 the daughter of Jacob and Helen Bachmann and educated in Westmoreland Central School. On May 18, 1957 she was united in marriage to David Harris in St. John’s Lutheran Church. On August 22, 1991 she was united in marriage to Neil Wightman. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church until moving to Texas in 2019 and then Seneca, South Carolina to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Marlene was employed at Rome Cable for many years and then at the Board of Education. She was a partner in Kozy Korner Ice Cream Shop, a member of the Lee Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Lee Center Senior Citizens and Bethany Gardens Guild.
She was very loving, caring and a giving person and everyone loved her when they met her. She loved to cook, knitting, crochet, quilting, reading, crafts and doing puzzles. Marlene would donate lap blankets, baby blankets and hats that she made to the hospitals each year. She and Neil loved taking long rides exploring the countryside. They spent many years as snow birds in Lady Lake, Florida and over the past few years with her wonderful sisters in Daytona Beach Shores.
Marlene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda (Harris) and Stephen Spellicy of Seneca, SC, sister, Joyce Tomasi of Stockbridge, GA, brother and sister-in-law J. Fred and Judith Bachmann of Vernon, NY, sister and brother-in-law Janice & Kennth Goetz of Richburg, SC, step daughter & step son-in-law Lauren & Burney Owen’s of Lee Center, NY, step son and step daughter-in-law Eric and Patricia Wightman of Williamsburg, VA, several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Saturday, August 27th from 12-2:00 p.m. followed immediately by a service at 2:00 p.m. A private interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Lee Center, NY.
