Obituary of Helen S. Mastroccio
Helen S. “Penny” Mastroccio, 78, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Galesburg, IL, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Helen Johnson. She was married to the late Phillip “Slim” Mastroccio.
Penny was a home care nurse for many years and cleaned homes. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.
Helen was known for baking prowess, especially her brownies and apple pie. This stems from her love of taking care of others. When she wasn’t cooking or baking for them, she was there as a constant support system. The one thing everyone says about Penny is that she gave great advice. You could talk to her for hours and it seemed like minutes, and walked away feeling so much better.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Christina Mastroccio Hall and her fiancé, Jeff Mizgala; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Madison.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Penny’s memory to the Humane Society as she loved animals or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, NY 13440.
