Obituary of Mark Gregory Spencer

Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mark Gregory Spencer, 69, loving father, devoted husband, and accomplished professional, passed away on May 31, 2023. Born May 10, 1954, Mark lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and a commitment to the well-being of his family and community.

Born and raised in Rome, NY, his early life adventures began on Delta Ave, where countless memories and lifelong friendships were created.   Mark attended Rome Free Academy, and graduated in the Class of '72. He further pursued his education at Norwich University, earning a degree in Business Administration. He embarked on a successful career in pharmaceuticals, starting in sales but continually seeking new challenges and growth.

In 1991, Mark took on the remarkable feat of pursuing his MBA while working full-time and raising a young family. His determination and commitment paid off as he successfully achieved his MBA, showcasing his drive and thirst for knowledge.

Mark dedicated many years of his professional life to Teva Neuroscience, where he retired in 2011 as the Senior Medical Liaison. Additionally, he briefly ventured into the restaurant business as co-owner of the Colonial Inn 2.0, alongside his late brother, Kirk Spencer(Sheila Spencer).  Mark is also predeceased by his father, Norman Spencer.

Mark is survived by his adoring mother, Mary Spencer, his beloved children, and grandchildren. Jennifer (Spencer) Quong and her husband James Quong, cherished by their children Caden and Madison; Allison (Spencer) Leone and her husband Richard Leone II, treasured by their children Maxwell and Mila; and James Spencer and his wife Jill (Sbarglia) Spencer, blessed with their sons Elias and Oliver, his brother Bruce Spencer (Suella Spencer), his partner Tina Boaz, his ex-wife Patricia Spencer, and countless cherished nieces and nephews.

However, above all else, Mark's top priority was always his children—Jennifer, Allison, and Jim. He poured his heart and soul into ensuring they had every opportunity to succeed and find happiness. His unwavering love and support were constants in their lives.

Mark had an undeniable passion for capturing life's precious moments through his camera lens. His photographs served as a testament to his ability to see people for who they truly were and provide them with exactly what they needed. He will forever be remembered for the impactful conversations he shared and the countless opportunities he created for those around him. Mark's greatest joy came from bringing happiness and joy to his friends and family.

In honor of Mark's memory/ in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to two organizations close to their hearts. Gigi's Playhouse Fort Myers ( or via check to: 1901 Brantley Rd, Unit 11, Fort Myers, FL 33907),  a center for children with Down Syndrome, providing essential support to the Down Syndrome community, including Mark's cherished grandson, Maxwell. Additionally, donations can be made to LiveDifferent ( or via cheque to PO Box 20047 Brandon South, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 6Y8) an international youth empowerment charity where Jennifer works. This organization strives to offer safe homes and education to those living in extreme poverty, a cause Mark deeply cared about.

Mark Gregory Spencer will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love, determination, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
